Cutting out an unwanted section of audio is fundamentally different from shrinking a file's size — trimming just discards the samples outside your selected range and keeps everything else exactly as it was, sample for sample. There's no re-encoding of the audio you keep, no quality tradeoff to weigh, and nothing lossy about the process itself. This is part of why the result exports as WAV: since nothing about the kept audio changed, there's no reason to run it through a lossy encoder that would introduce the very quality loss trimming itself never causes.
