An expense that never shows up on a budget line

A meeting's cost is real, but it's invisible in a way that makes it easy to ignore — nobody gets an invoice for it, so it never competes for attention against expenses that do show up on a spreadsheet. Multiply enough attendees by a long enough meeting, though, and the number is often larger than people expect once they actually see it, especially for recurring meetings that quietly repeat the same cost every week. Watching the figure tick up live during an actual meeting tends to have a different effect than just being told meetings are expensive in the abstract — it's the same reason a taxi meter running makes people notice traffic delays more than they otherwise would.

Frequently asked questions

How is the cost calculated?

Number of attendees × average hourly rate × time elapsed (or planned) in hours — a simple approximation, not an exact payroll figure.

Does pausing lose the elapsed time?

No — Pause freezes the cost where it is, and Start resumes counting from there. Reset clears it back to zero.

What if attendees have very different pay rates?

Use the average across everyone in the meeting for a reasonable estimate — for a more precise figure with a very mixed group, you could run the calculation separately for each pay band and add the results together.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The timer and all calculations run entirely locally in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
