An arrow works well for pointing at one specific spot without covering it up — useful when the thing you're highlighting is small, like a button or a single line of text. A box is better for drawing attention to an area rather than a point, especially when the boundary itself matters, like showing exactly which part of a form needs filling in. Highlight is the gentlest option, tinting a region without fully obscuring what's underneath, which works well over text you still want readable. Free drawing is the most flexible but least precise — good for circling an irregular shape or adding a quick handwritten-style note, less good for anything that needs to look tidy. Text labels are worth keeping short; a long sentence directly on a screenshot is often harder to read than the same note written separately underneath the image.
