Higher compression makes a smaller file but takes longer to create. Lower compression is faster but the result is larger. For files that are already compressed (like JPEGs, MP4s, or other zip files), a lower setting often makes little difference to the final size.
With AES-256, there's no way to recover it — nobody, including us, can open the file without the password. Keep it somewhere safe. The standard/legacy option is technically crackable with the right tools, but don't count on being able to do that yourself either — treat any password you set as final either way.
